A survivor of Friday's deadly campus shooting says Amy Bishop stood up during a staff meeting and methodically started shooting her colleagues in the head. Her gun jammed and she was pushed out of the room. Now, university officials are having to defend why they hired her in 2003.
University President, Dr. David Williams, says she had favorable references including a recommendation from Harvard.
Williams also says a background check done on Bishop Tuesday didn't reveal the deadly shooting of her brother, her being questioned in a pipe bomb investigation, nor her run in with the law in Peabody, Massachusetts, where she apparently attacked a woman.
The attack landed Bishop in court for assault and battery. After six months of probation, the judge dismissed the charges.
