This year's MAMGA king, is a familiar name to people across the country. He's Jamarcus Russell, Williamson High School standout and NFL quarterback. This Gulf Coast native is returning to his home turf for a short time, to reign over Mobile's Mardi Gras. He accepted the invitation to wear the crown, because of his mother. "My mom talked about not being able to be in the court when she was pregnant with me. I returned the favor and did it for her."
Jamarcus's mother Zina, says she was taken aback when she saw her son wearing his royal attire. "When I saw him with it on (sic), It was breathtaking, I could not explain how I felt. I got teary eyed and all that."
Jamarcus wanted his train to symbolize all of the things that are important to him. There is an NFL logo, along with his high school's mascot, the Williamson Lions. The letters, FF, which stand for family first, are in the center. Jamarcus says his faith has guided him to success on the football field. he placed a large cross on the on the top of his train, to show his thanks for his many blessings. "God made everything possible, from the cars, the clothes, the jewels, the houses, real estate, the jets. God made it possible. I give my praises and honors to him."
This NFL quarterback is used to leading his football team on the field. He is looking forward to quarter-backing his royal court during the MAMGA parade. I asked him, "King Jamarcus. How does that sound?" Jamarcus replied, "The only thing i am missing now is a castle."
Seamstress Pat Richardson sewed Jamarcus's train.
