To see a majestic horse seriously wounded, you have to ask, why would anyone do this?
“I don't know, it's just horrible, one of the worst things I've ever had to witness,” says Helen Beverly. She is the mother of the horse owner. She says the incident happened last night.
“About 11 o’clock [Wednesday] night the neighbors heard gunshots so they went out here and called the law,” says Beverly. The Greene County Sheriff's office says six horses were shot to death. Four were wounded--those four will have to be put down.
“You think it was somebody that was mad at somebody, something revengable,” says Greene County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Keith Churchwell. He says some horses were hit with a high powered rifle, others with a bow and arrow. The attack on the horses may be connected to an incident Saturday that left two cows dead.
“Another field, same owner, he had two cows shot and killed with a bow and arrow,” says Churchwell. The Chief Deputy says he believes they're looking for at least two people in this case. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Greene county Sheriff's Office at (601) 394-2342. The incident happened on a field off of St. Ellen Road in Leakesville.
