During a press conference in Robertsdale Wednesday involving a recent, county-wide narcotics investigation, Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack told reporters he's concerned about a new drug teens are experimenting with.
"It can be deadly and that's our concern," says Mack.
The "drug" is called "Lean"...a dangerous drink made with Sprite codeine cough syrup and in some cases, hard candy. Lean originated in Texas, but experts say the concoction has made its way to Southwest Alabama.
If you mix these drugs, very few people would even be able to walk," says Whitey Whiten. White is a drug addiction counselor in Foley. Infinity Counseling treats drug addicts. "Only bad things can happen. It's really scary thinking of somebody drinking this and getting behind the wheel, it's going to cause some problems."
Whiten says Lean is dangerous and highly addictive.
"It's easy for kids to get their hands on and teens these days are experimenting with everything. It's dangerous."
Sheriff Mack says so far, no arrests have been made in connection with "Lean" but says they're received several tips about kids abusing the potentially deadly drink at parties and get-togethers.
