News 5 is getting ready for a story that's out of this world.
On Wednesday night, we're coordinating an interview with Kay Hire from the international space station.
Hire is the astronaut and Mobile native who's on the shuttle Endeavour right now. She and the crew are delivering an observation deck and new room to the space station.
The former Murphy High School student is leaving earth at a crucial time but she might have solved that problem.
The former registrar for Murphy, Frances Sibley, says she heard the astronaut had some stuff in tow. "She was told to travel light this time but heard she might have to take some Mardi Gras beads and moonpies."
NASA is in constant contact with the crew and we're trying to confirm that beads and moonpies are on the trip too.
If all goes as planned, we'll broadcast the interview on Thursday morning.
