A 17 year old Baker High School student was rushed to the hospital this morning after he was struck by a pickup truck on Airport Boulevard.
Officials on the scene say Alfred Leonard was in critical condition when he was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
The teenager was hit at about 7:25 a.m. as he was crossing Airport Boulevard in West Mobile. The accident happened in a construction zone.
According to Cpl. Steven Smith of the Alabama Department of Public Safety, Leonard suffered a lacerated liver, broken femur and what could be a serious head injury.
A school nurse, who was at the emergency room with Leonard's family, says the student is still unconscious. Leonard is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, according to hospital officials.
