Toyota is shipping gas pedal replacement parts to dealers this week. The parts should arrive at most dealerships by Friday. Once the parts are in-house, recall letters will be mailed out to affected customers. At Eastern Shore Toyota in Daphne, mechanics will repair or replace more than three-thousand sticky gas pedals.
"There has to be some patience from customers," says general manager Terry Bell. "We have two point three million vehicles out there affected. Locally at this dealership, we have three-thousand we have to fix."
To handle the massive recall, three mechanics at Eastern Shore Toyota will work around the clock.
"It's going to be hairy," says mechanic Shawn Dennis. "We're going to be open 24/7, we don't know how many cars we're going to get, but we're going to have a pile of them."
Dealerships are asking customers not to bring in their vehicles for the recall until they receive an official recall letter in the mail. Affected customers should start receiving recall letters by next Monday.
