People preying on young people online is more common than you think. The Crimes Against Children Research Center found that one in five teenagers has received unwanted solicitation for sex online. Mobile Police help the U.S. Attorneys Office catch predators who seek their young victims in chat rooms.Officers say some parents are naïve about the activity that goes on...on the internet.
"Parents are worried about invading their child's privacy and it is a safety issue and when it comes to your child using the computer that you bought in your house, privacy is just not an issue. It's all about safety really," said Mobile Police Department Spokesperson Officer Chris Levy.
Officers suggest parents install spyware their home computer - as well as parental controls. Here's a helpful website: internetfamilyfun.com/internetsafety/youthsurvey.htm
