While many students in Baldwin County have probably been enjoying these last few days of summer, their teachers have been hard at work getting ready for what is not just a big day but a big first week for the school district. I went to Daphne Elementary School today. Third grade teacher Renee Moorer is still hammering out the details of her lesson plans for the upcoming school year. With her classroom pretty much set she says she's anxious for Monday.
“Oh it's very high energy, not just for students but for teachers preparing and learning students and getting to know who they are,” says Moorer. The unpacking for the year sometimes starts in early July. Music teacher Marcia Dowdy floats between two different schools and has a lot of names to learn. Like Mobile county and other districts across the state, Baldwin County students will be introduced to a new teaching method called "response to instruction." The goal is to increase comprehension.
