Mobile City Council Member met Tuesday but nothing was done to solve the city's budget crisis.
A vote to fix the multi-million dollar deficit never made it on the agenda. The city council is still divided on what is best for the city. During the council meeting, city workers, fire fighters, and police officers stood in unity in favor of the one cent sales tax. Different representatives spoke to the council asking them to reach a compromise and reconsider Mayor Sam Jones' proposed idea. At the end of the day, nothing was accomplished and city workers walked away not knowing what the future holds.
"It's a very, very sad day that we have not reached an agreement after four finance committee meetings. It's unfortunate that all of my colleagues are putting all of these different proposals out without communicating with the collective body. It's not teamwork," said Mobile City Councilman Jermaine Burrell.
As of Tuesday evening, the city council has not scheduled another meeting for this week.
Meantime, Mobile Mayor Sam Jones is waiting on a proposed layoff list from the Mobile County Personnel Board, just in case there are layoffs.
