(AP) - A man who escaped from the St. Tammany
Parish jail in June has pleaded guilty to the 2005 killing of a
19-year-old Alabama woman.
Eric Buras entered the plea Monday to second-degree murder,
which carries a mandatory life prison sentence. Authorities said
the body of Katie Wilkerson, of Bayou LaBatre, Ala., was found in
the West Pearl River on Nov. 15, 2005. She had been strangled and
drowned.
Buras and two other inmates were captured within hours of their
June 18 escape after being spotted by a helicopter. Another inmate
eluded authorities for about two days.
Authorities have charged Buras' former wife, Claudia Buras, with
smuggling hacksaw blades that were used to saw through a cell's
window bars.
