A Coden church destroyed by fire earlier this summer is a big step closer to rebuilding. Members of Sweet Bethel Missionary Baptist Church are on a money-making kick. Tonight, 9/26/09, they held a special fundraiser at the Sunrise Auditorium in Prichard. The pastor says they likely raised $30,000 for their building fund. He says they may have a new church by the end of the year. The pastor says their faith has helped them in this troubling time.

“With the help of the Lord all things is possible the thing that looks sometimes to be hard or looks as though it will not be made possible God makes a way out of no way,” says Pastor Darrell Jones. The church burned down in June. It was nearly a century old. The congregation currently holds services at the community shelter in Coden.
