New Baldwin County Boat Launch

New Baldwin County Boat Launch

Baldwin County Commission buys 20 acres of land in the Miflin community along Wolf Creek to build new public park and boat launch, but not everyone is excited about the project

Bill Harris has lived on Wolf Creek in Baldwin County's Miflin community for five years. Harris recently found out the county will soon build a boat launch and parking lot capable of holding 150 boat trailers just feet from his property.

"I could be looking at a parking lot full of boat trailers and I'm not very happy about it," says Harris.

Harris says many of his neighbors are also worried about the new project...a project Harris says would create traffic snarls and could damage the area's delicate wildlife.

But county commissioners say the boat launch would have minimal negative impact on the community.

"We want this to be something that enhances the community, not take away from it," says Commissioner Charles "Skip" Gruber. "We're open to suggestions while it's at this stage."

"I'm not opposed to recreation," says Harris. "But when you have that many boats pushing a lot of water, creating a large wake, it's going to create some issues."

The new public park and launch will be built on Wilson Road near County Road 20.
