Loxley Municipal Park is going to the dogs. People and their pooches packed the park for BARC for a cure today, 9/19/09. The joint fundraiser between the Baldwin County Humane Society and American Cancer Society puts the spotlight on cancer survivors and their pets. Nearly 100 pet owners circled the park with their dogs to raise money for the two groups. Some cancer survivors say their dog was instrumental in their recovery.

“We love our dogs and I know personally my dogs have been helpful in healing my soul being there for me when I didn't feel well they bring a lot of joy to our lives,” says cancer survivor Donette Pelletier. Organizers say they expected to raise about two thousand dollars with the relay for life for dogs. They say they'd like this to be an annual event for cancer survivors and canines.
