The tough economy has hit the Mobile County District Attorney's Office hard. District Attorney John Tyson Jr. says as many as 15 employees were laid off Friday. Tyson says his office has been dealing with state budget cuts and they were not able to replace a major grant. Now, they've lost about a third of their staff. Despite the smaller work force, Tyson says they'll be able to get the job done, "the remainders of us have to work faster, smarter ,better and more efficient. We are still figuring out exactly how were going to do that but I'm confident that we will be able to do it and maintain a level of service," said Tyson.
On top of the layoffs, Tyson says they also will not be replacing 4 assistant district attorneys who resigned, another who retired, and 3 support personell they lost during this fiscal year.
