The State Attorney's Office will review a tragic deadly shooting involving an elderly man and his daughter.

According to the incident report filed by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, 86-year-old Preston Ezell shot his daughter, Kurnetta, Friday morning at their home on Monarch Drive in Pensacola.

Ezell, who has dementia, told deputies he thought someone had broken into the home and was screaming at his sister. So he went and grabbed his gun. Ezell said he accidentally shot his sister while trying to protect her.

But Ezell's sister has been dead for quite some time. The woman he shot is actually his daughter. It's unclear whether there was an intruder.

The Sheriff's Office, which declined to comment, did not arrest Ezell and is turning the case over to the State Attorney's Office.
