A man is in critical condition with burns to 50 percent of his body after Police say he was cooking meth in his disabled father's kitchen. It happened early Tuesday morning at the Pine Trace Apartment Complex for people who are physically challenged. Mobile Police say 27-year-old Thomas Edwards was cooking the meth when it exploded, blowing the windows out and part of the roof off. When firefighters arrived, Edwards was already on his way to the hospital, but his father was inside, "they made entry and noticed that the ceiling had collapsed inside of the structure itself and then they found a disabled man in the back, in the bedroom, fortunately, he was in an area where nothing happened, you know, he was protected more or less," said Mobile Fire-Rescue Spokesman, Steve Huffman. The CEO of the non-profit group Volunteers of America Southeast says they own and manage the Pine Trace Apartment complex. He says they regret this happened, and they plan to fix the apartment.
