A man is badly burned in a meth lab explosion at an apartment complex.

According to Mobile police, 27-year-old Thomas Edwards was cooking methamphetamine around 4:30 a.m. in his disabled dad's kitchen at the Pine Trace Apartments on Schaub Avenue. The chemicals used to cook the meth exploded. The force of the blast blew out the front window, ripped a hole in the ceiling and knocked some shingles off the roof.

Someone drove Edwards to nearby Providence Hospital before firefighters arrived. Edwards was then transported to USA Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition with burns to 50% of his body.

Firefighters rescued Edwards' 50-year-old bed ridden father from the apartment. Fortunately he was not hurt.
