A Mobile waste disposal company and two top
executives are facing federal charges of illegal disposal of waste.
The U.S. Department of Justice said Friday a federal grand jury
in Mobile has indicted DHS Inc. and its president, Donald Gregory
Smith and manager William Wilmoth Sr., alleging numerous violations
of the Clean Water Act.
Company officials issued a statement denying the allegations and
saying they will defend themselves vigorously.
They are accused of dumping into sewers thousands of gallons of
waste grease and oil. The company is a Roto-Rooter franchisee and
operates under that name.
Justice officials say Michael L. Edington pleaded guilty Friday
in federal court in Mobile to having dumped from Roto-Rooter pump
trucks numerous loads of grease into sewer systems between 2004 and
2006.
