Okaloosa County Deputy Meets His Kidney Donor

A man who works for the Corrections Unit of the Polk County Sheriff's Office in Florida donated a kidney to Okaloosa County Deputy Johnnie Briggs. The two men met today.

News 5 first told you about Deputy Briggs in June. He was spending 12 hours in dialysis while working 12 hour shifts as a traffic enforcement officer.

Capt. Rick Hohl, who works for the Corrections Unit of the Polk County Sheriff's Office, heard about Deputy Briggs' situation and offered to help. After finding out he was a match, Hohl offered to donate his kidney to Briggs.

The transplant was done on Tuesday at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. Today the two men met for the first time.
