Very Little H1N1 Vaccine In 'Bama

Swine flu vaccine arrival slow in Alabama.

Alabama's state health officer says the delivery of swine flu vaccine to the state is far behind schedule.

State Health Officer Don Williamson said Tuesday the slow arrival of the vaccine is throwing off health officials' plans for mass vaccination clinics at schools and complicating delivery to doctors' offices.

Williamson says Alabama expected to have at least 570,000 shots of vaccine for the H1N1 virus by the end of October. He says the state will be lucky to get 300,000 shots by then.

He says he plans to talk with the Department of Public Health's board on Wednesday to come up with a strategy to provide available vaccine to doctors most likely to treat children and adults at risk for flu complications.
