A rape suspect is dead after a shootout with Mobile Police. It happened around 10:30 Tuesday night on Herman Drive in the Happy Hill Community. Police say they went to an apartment to investigate the rape of a 15-year-old girl. But, when they got there, police say the suspect, 39-year-old Cornelius Johnson, fired at them. The two officers fired back, "one officer fired one shot, and the other officer fired one shot, striking the suspect in the upper area of his body," said Mobile Police Chief Lester Hargrove. The Chief says the two officers have been placed on adminstrative leave pending an investigation by internal affairs. Their names are not being released at this time.
