Illegal Worker Accused of Counterfeiting Cash

A Mexican worker is sitting in the Baldwin County jail after a brush with the U.S. Secret Service.

Investigative Reporter Tiffany Craig tells us about the valuables he's accused of importing from South of the Border!

A package from Mexico was passing through Miami International Airport last month on its way to Shelton Beach Road in Saraland. What was inside that package sent tenants at Northpointe Apartments scrambling.

Larry Laffiette saw all of the activity. "The cops left and then all of a sudden they (tenants) just came here and packed all their s*** up and just left real quick."

Word quickly spread that the U.S. Secret Service had intercepted fake American money, stuffed in magazines and in an Express Mail package from Mexico. It was addressed to Armaundo Paz Sanchez AKA Juan Zamora-Paz.

According to court documents obtained exclusively by News 5, the feds let him receive the mail and busted him the same day.

More than 10,000 dollars worth of fake money was found on the bed and in the floor of Zamora-Paz's closet.

Zamora-Paz worked for Carolina Roofing and right now they are doing construction work at ThyssenKrupp Steel. Their branch manager tells us they verify documentation on all their employees. However, other employees tell us it's common knowledge that Zamora-Paz was not working in the country legally.

ThyssenKrupp officials in Calvert say they know nothing about the funny money case or about any specific illegal workers at the site. Spokesperson Scott Posey addressed the issue earlier this month. "We have not had brought to our attention any specific instances of illegal workers up on our site and if we did we would take that very seriously."

It looks like they won't have to worry about Zamora-Paz. He's got a package full of legal trouble to deal with first!

Zamora-Paz has been assigned a public defender named Carlos Williams. He didn't return our calls.

Court documents also reveal that the Saraland mail carrier delivered similar packages to the same address for the past three months.
