School officials in Baldwin County will cut more positions, just weeks after terminating 200 employees

The Baldwin County Board of Education will terminate at least 15 more positions next month to help offset a multi-million dollar budget shortfall. The announcement comes just weeks after school officials implemented a reduction in force policy and cut more than 200 school support positions.

"It's the most heartbreaking experience I've ever gone through in my 30 plus years in this profession," says Baldwin Co. School Supt. Dr. Faron Hollinger. "We have just about gotten to the point to where we'll be inoperable if we have to continue eliminating people and positions."

Hollinger says this round of cuts will affect the central office.

"We've reduced as much as we can in the classroom and in the support staff," says Hollinger. "The central office was the next logical place for us to go."

Hollinger says in additions to more layoffs school field trips and extra-curricular activities could be cut and employees driving take-home cars could lose that privilege. Travel expenses could also be eliminated.

Hollinger and the school board could meet as early as next week to discuss specific positions that will be eliminated.
