Hats Back On For MPD

Hats Back On For MPD

Interim Mobile Police Chief Lester Hargrove says officers must now wear their hats when out dealing with public.

Mobile police are looking a little more
dapper these days.
Officers are now required to wear their hats when they are
outside dealing with the public. It's a change brought on by
interim chief Lester Hargrove, who took over when Phillip Garrett
retired last month.
Hats were not mandatory under Garrett, but Hargrove said the hat
looks more professional and is an important part of visibility for
officers.
Donald Scott, president of the Alabama Police Benevolent
Association, says the new policy can be tough for field officers
who are chasing a suspected robber or directing traffic in the hot
sun.
The policy could stick, though. Hargrove has applied for the
chief's job, which is expected to be filled soon.
