Growing Funds For Weeks Bay Reserve

The 16th Annual plant sale for the Weeks Bay Reserve continues this weekend. When I stopped by today, 10/10/09, ferns, flowers, shrubs and other plants native to the area were being sold. The money raised goes to the weeks bay reserve. Organizers say they hope to raise more than $7,000. They say it's not just a fundraiser. It’s also a chance to encourage gardeners and landscapers to use native plants from the gulf coast. "These plants grew here, they're native to here they're adapted to our conditions and they generally do very well,” says Weeks Bay Reserve Volunteer Fred Nation.

The plant sale is put on by Weeks Bay Reserve volunteers. They hope to raise money for new equipment and other events throughout the year. It continues Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm at Safe Harbor. That’s across Highway 98 from the Weeks Bay Reserve.
