Death of 17 Year Old Leads To Protests

The mother of a Pensacola teenager who police say died when he fell into the path of a police cruiser tells News Five she simply wants the truth to come out.
17 year old VIctor Steen died Saturday morning in the area of "T" and Cervantes Streets.
Pensacola Police said a police officer tried to stop Steen for questioning when he rode off on his bicycle.
Police said the officer then tried unsuccessfully to tase Steen, and that's when Steen crashed his bike and fell into the path of the police car.
Steen's mother, Cassandra Steen, said, "It has been very difficult, but, unfortunately, we can't deal our own hands in life. He was a wonderful kid, wonderful, always loving, always wanting to hug. I was his mommy and he was my baby."
Thursday afternoon, more than 80 demonstrators marched from the Pensacola Police Department to the City Council meeting to raise awareness about Steen's death.
One of them was Jonathan Parish.
He said, "We don't want anyone else to die at the hands of reckless behavior. Its really important to us that this goes to trial."
At the site where Steen died, well-wishers have put balloons and stuffed dolls.
Cassandra Steen said, "That is my desire, that we will get this thing under control: that maybe somebody else won't have to go through what I'm going through."
Officials with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, or the SCLC, said they met with Pensacola Police Thursday and want the city to suspend the use of Tasers until officials can review their Taser policy.
Dexter Wimbish with the SCLC said, "We are troubled by the fact that an officer would use poor judgement and shoot a Taser gun from a moving vehicle to a suspect that ended up causing the untimely death."
Art Rocker, the chairman of the Florida branch of the SCLC, said, "It has just saddened the entire community."
Cassandra Steen said, "My prayers are that the truth will come out."
Pensacola Police said this was a tragic event, and have put the officer involved, Jerald Ard, on administative leave.
They said they're investigating the death.
So are the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Florida Highway Patrol.
