Five weeks after the body of a Saraland National Guardsman was found in his Williams Avenue home, police are finally releasing the motive behind the murder.

Lacy Embley Pope, 31, and her husband John Pope, Jr. are accused of killing her father, 57-year-old Tony Embley, for cash. The couple allegedly stole $120 before beating him to death. Embley was also either cut or stabbed, but police refused to the release details.

Police Chief Kevin Anderson says other items were taken from Embley's home, but he wouldn't say what else was stolen.

Embley's body was discovered October 21, nearly two days after he was murdered.

Paula Morris, who considered herself a close friend of Embley, says she never suspected his daughter would be involved.

"She didn't come around," said Morris. "Nobody did. Tony sat there alone by himself most of the time on the front porch, not bothering anybody."

Police are not anticipating any more arrests. Anderson said Wednesday he expects a Grand Jury to indict the couple on capital murder charges.
