Tasha Buchanan is fairly busy for a Saturday night. She welcomes customers at her store at the Bel Air Mall. She's one of many retailers getting ready for her biggest shopping day of the year.
“We come in early and stay late, you have to tag clothes get them out get them ready, clean the store up,” says Tasha Buchanan. She says her business has been okay this year despite the recession.
“It's been a little bit slower, but not too much we keep getting new clothes in week after week and girls are still coming in and buying clothes,” says Buchanan. Even some shoppers who say they're weathering this recession fairly well say they are going to tighten their belts
“Just trying to tighten our belts a little bit and not really spend that much in the retail arena,” says shopper Anitra Jarreau. She says she’s fairly confident her job in the medical field isn’t going away anytime soon. Anitra says she’s still trying to maintain a budget this year. Elsewhere in the mall, places like Bama Fever are noticing a slight growth in foot traffic.
“It was okay, not too busy but ever since yesterday we've been kind of slammed,” says worker Alleck Wade.
