A Seminole man was critically hurt in a meth lab explosion Wednesday night. Sheriff's investigators say Tony Mitchell was cooking crystal meth and had turned his kitchen into a working meth lab. The mobile home caught fire when the lab exploded. Narcotics officers seized chemicals, equipment used to make the illegal drug and firearms. Seminole Volunteer Fire Chief Kenny Ping responded to the accident.
"It was real rough last night," says Ping. "A very dangerous situation. There's working meth labs all over Seminole I believe. They're a danger to themselves, they're a danger to the public and the children which we're very concerned with."
Mitchell was transported to U.S.A Medical Center. Investigators say Mitchell will be charged when he's released from the hospital. Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack says meth labs are a growing problem in many rural areas.
"We've had several ongoing investigations that have targeted local cook or small cook meth labs and have made several arrests, our efforts are continuing," says Mack.
