A Mobile County Sheriff’s deputy says drivers travelling along Interstate 10 eastbound this afternoon spotted between three to four horses running along the shoulder. It was at the Alabama-Mississippi state line at about 3:30 this afternoon, 11/17/09. The deputies say some drivers pulled over and tried to calm the horses. Authorities say that’s when traffic started to back up causing an accident involving at least two cars. One of the vehicles was flipped on its top. State Troopers, MCSO and Grand Bay Fire-Rescue were on the scene for the clean-up. The MCSO deputy says the drivers received minor injuries. The interstate had to be shut down briefly in the eastbound direction while authorities cleaned up a fuel spill from one of the vehicles. The condition of the horses is not known, but they are believed to be unharmed. They were not at the scene when I left.
