You may not recognize his face, but I'm sure you heard of some of his novels like “The Great Santini”, “The Prince of Tides” and “The Lords of Discipline.” Author Pat Conroy was in Fairhope today, 11/14/09. He spoke to a packed house on the Faulkner State Campus. The bestselling author brought the audience to tears with humorous stories of his struggle to be a professional writer. Conroy says he didn't know when he started to write books, he'd also have to learn how to talk.
“So I have developed this line of three hours of nonsense but it's the same nonsense every southerner manages to perfect and every single one of us uses when we find ourselves on a Southern porch,” says Conroy. Conroy says he fell in love with Fairhope several years ago. He's promoting his new book "South of Broad." The event was organized by the good folks at the Page & Palette bookstore in Fairhope.
