Look What Ida Washed In

People on Hollingers Island get a surprise when they wake up to find a 9-foot alligator in the yard.

A nearly 9-foot alligator is found roaming around in a neighborhood on Hollingers Island.

It washed up in a backyard on Bay Road.

Most gators don't end up that far down the bay-- but this poor thing was walking around in circles. Alligator catcher Gary Casper says its blind in both eyes and couldn't find its way back to the water.

Casper knew he would get some calls after the storm and says he had no choice but to kill this one. "The danger is if someone gets close to him thinking he's injured or something, his reaction is gonna be to snap. He got washed up with Ida and now he's blind. He's in the water holes and he can't see how to get back in the bay."

Casper plans to eat the meat but won't be selling the hide. In the current economy, Casper tells us that there's no market for alligator skin.
