Parents in Bay Minette are trying to lasso money for local schools. It was a bronco busting good time at the Carol Hodgson arena this weekend. Hundreds attended the first annual "Saddle Up for Schools" rodeo. The event was to raise money for the North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education. Organizers say a rodeo is a perfect fit for this community.
“It’s indicative of this area, this arena's new, for the city of Bay Minette, we wanted to support the arena and we wanted to do something that Baldwin County residents like to do and rodeo is one of those things,” says Treasurer Tina Covington. The rodeo was dedicated to late principal Leah Ann Overstreet. The Baldwin County Educator died unexpectedly from flu complications late last month. Covington says Overstreet was one of the leading people in charge of putting this rodeo together before her passing.
