Pascagoula Officials To See Beach Construction

Pascagoula officials are expected to visit a site Monday where sand is being pumped in along the Gulf of Mexico to build a new beach.

Pascagoula officials are expected to
visit a site Monday where sand is being pumped in along the Gulf of
Mexico to build a new beach.
Sand from the Pascagoula River began flowing through a
7-mile-long pipeline last week on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
beach-building project.
Maj. Adam Harless, project engineer for the corps, said the
project is going well.
About 900,000 cubic yards of sand will be moved through the
pipeline to build the new beach.
After sand is pumped for about two weeks to build a protective
barrier, Geotubes, which are textile bags that look like giant
sausages, will be filled with sand to form the first section of the
beach perimeter.
Harless said officials will visit the site Monday.
