Kay Ivey will not seek a third term as Alabama State Treasurer. Instead she will try to become the state's second female governor.

Ivey won't make her candidacy official until June, but in a letter she sent to supporters, Ivey says he says the office of Governor is "the only office I intend to seek in 2010." Click here to read the full letter.

The 64 year old is a native of Camden and a 1967 of Auburn University. She began her career as a high school teacher before working at Merchants National Bank in Mobile.

Ivey says she put her campaign on the backburner so she could focus on Alabama's financially troubled prepaid college tuition program. "After the economic downturn caused a negative impact on the PACT program, I purposefully turned my energies to the PACT purchasers and students and focused on finding solutions for students rather than being just another politician."

Ivey will join a GOP field that currently includes Greenville businessman Tim James, State Representative Robert Bentley and Mobile native Bradley Byrne.

Congressman Artur Davis and Alabama Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks are both running for the democratic nomination.
