PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A woman charged with throwing her two young
children off a bridge Saturday in Portland, Oregon, had recently
lost custody.
Court documents show a judge ruled that the children -- aged
four and seven -- should live with their father because of the
kids' school schedules. The judge also said the mother, Amanda Jo
Stott-Smith, could not visit them without the father's permission.
Other court records show that Stott-Smith has a history of
domestic violence.
The younger of the two children died in the 75-foot fall from
the bridge into a river. The older child survived and has been
placed in temporary state custody.
Stott-Smith is charged with aggravated murder and attempted
aggravated murder. She was ordered to remain in custody.
