COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Two school buses crashed into a
concrete barrier at a demolition derby-style race in Ohio, injuring
10 spectators.
The buses were racing Saturday night in figure eights around the
Columbus Motor Speedway track. The race was one of several during
an event called Crash-A-Rama.
Columbus fire department Battalion Chief David Whiting says five
adults and five children were taken to hospitals for mostly minor
injuries such as cuts and bruises. He says two people struck in
their chests by pieces of concrete were treated as top-level
traumas and later downgraded to less serious statuses.
Spectator Tiffany Estep says she had to shield her 18-month-old
daughter from flying debris and saw people hit by chunks of the
4-foot-high wall.
Speedway owner Jeff Nuckles says he's praying for the injured.
