HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - Hoover Mayor Tony Petolos says he has been
approached about taking the job of chancellor of the state's
two-year college system, which Bradley Byrne is leaving to run for
governor.
Petelos, a Republican like Byrne, said he hasn't been offered
the job, but he has been approached by intermediaries for the
governor and Board of Education, which oversees the two-year
schools. He told The Birmingham News he thinks he can "help bring
leadership and unity" to the organization.
Randy McKinney, vice chairman of board, said he knew nothing
about anyone talking to Petelos. McKinney said the only discussions
have been about what kind of search the board should conduct.
However, two years ago, board members were having the same kind
of talks when Gov. Bob Riley surprised them and recommended Byrne.
