MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A ruling by a federal appeals court
means it will be at least August before former Alabama Gov. Don
Siegelman has to return to federal prison.
The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has granted Siegelman's
motion to delay returning his case to a lower court in Montgomery
until after the U.S. Supreme Court decides if it will hear the
former governor's appeal of his conviction in a government
corruption case.
The order says the former governor's case will not be returned
to Montgomery until Aug. 12 at the earliest.
Siegelman is currently out of prison on an appeal bond. His
attorney, Vince Kilborn, says the ruling means the former governor
will remain free for at least three months.
