An early morning accident forced police to shutdown Interstate 65 southbound in Mobile, between Airport Boulevard and Dauphin Street. Mobile police say two vehicles collided in the accident, which happened shortly after 3:00 am. Investigators say the force of the accident was so intense, it sent a guardrail from the interstate over a fence and on to the side of the I-65 Service Road.

Three people were taken to the hospital. No word on their conditions.

Mobile Police and Alabama State Troopers are investigating the accident. They are also inspecting the road for damage.

Around the same time, two vehicles crashed in the northbound lanes of Interstate 65, in the same area. No other details have been released.
