MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A new report shows the number of homicides reported in Alabama dropped by 13 percent last year over
the previous year, but the overall number of violent crimes increased by three percent.
The Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center on Wednesday released its "Crime in Alabama 2008" report. It's an annual
compilation of offense and arrest data reported by law enforcement agencies throughout the state.
The 33rd edition of the report said overall there were 201,880 crimes reported in 2008, representing a four percent increase from
2007. The number of property crimes increased by four percent, but the number of motor vehicle thefts dropped by three percent.
