Despite the tough economy, a telecommunications company is hiring Gulf Coast workers. Americatel is opening a new call center in Atmore. The company held a job fair Monday and Tuesday. They plan to hire 50 to 60 customer service representatives. But, job applicants are facing serious competition, hundreds of people applied at the job fair, "we have seen a lot of people who are out of work, a lot of people who are immediately available and that works great for us. But, we also have seen some folks who are I guess what I would call them under employed, you know, they're working in kind of minimum wage type jobs and they're looking for a better opportunity, something that has better benefits that maybe has a career path for them," said Johnna McCooey, Americatel Human Resources. Applicants will find out in about a week whether they got the job. Those who do will start training June 1st and will start work June 15th.
