Dozens of people spent their Saturday morning cleaning up Weeks Bay. The annual Weeks Bay Area River Clean-Up was held May 9th, 2009. Organizers say they're able to pick up between four thousand to eight thousand pounds of trash every year. Volunteers were spread out all along tributaries that fed into the bay. Organizers say Weeks Bay is an important resource that needs protecting.

“We try to get the debris out because the debris not only is it an aesthetic problem there can be a problem with toxicity,” says Watershed Coordinator Michael Shelton. The cleanup is an annual event more than a decade old. Organizers say they identified several sites that need a good cleaning.
