Some Mobile County 4th graders are learning about the importance of clean water. State and local environmental groups held the first Mobile County water festival Thursday, May 7, 2009. The event allowed the kids to do activities showing the importance of a healthy ecosystem. The kids learned about the water cycle, pollution and built their own model water shed. Organizers say it's a good way to educate the young.
“I think it's very important that you know where your water comes from and the importance of keeping it clean,” says April Griffin with the Mobile County Soil Conservation District. The water festival was funded by a grand from the gulf coast resource conservation and development council. More than 200 kids took part in the event.
