A piece of presidential history is on its way to Mobile.

One of the HH-1N helicopters that flew Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan, will be put on display at Battleship Memorial Park.

“This is an outstanding and quite historic addition to our aircraft collection at Battleship Memorial Park,” Bill Tunnell, Executive Director, said. “Many thanks to the great team at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola who have made this possible.”

After serving two decades as Marine One, the helicopter was used for rescue missions which is why its currently painted orange and white. The aircraft will be restored to its Presidential configuration in the coming months.

The HH-1N is being flown from Naval Air Base Fallon in Nevada and will land in Mobile tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
