HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Officials at north Alabama schools that
were closed amid concerns over swine flu have announced they will
reopen earlier than first thought.
Superintendents of Madison City and Madison County school
systems said they will reopen all impacted schools Wednesday
instead of waiting until May 14 as planned.
The change comes after the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention changed its guidelines Tuesday, saying it was no longer
advisable that schools close for swine flu.
Last week schools were advised to shut down for about two weeks
if there were suspected cases of swine flu and hundreds of schools
around the country closed as a result.
All public schools in the Huntsville area were closed
temporarily and all elementary schools in Madison City Schools were
to have remained closed until next week.
