GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) - A former Alabama legislator has been
arrested on charges that he scammed victims of Hurricane Katrina in
Louisiana.
Police in Rainbow City near Gadsden say 62-year-old John Colvin
was arrested last week on felony warrants from law enforcement
agencies in the New Orleans area.
Rainbow City Police Lt. Greg Carroll said Colvin was charged
with selling modular homes to Hurricane Katrina victims and never
delivering the homes.
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin said Colvin was being held
in the Etowah County Jail on $50,000 bond and faces extradition to
Louisiana. It was not immediately known Tuesday if Colvin had an
attorney.
Colvin was elected to the Alabama House in 1989 in a special
election. He was defeated when he ran for a full term in 1990.
