Firm handshakes and broad smiles, networking is often key to finding that next job. That's why Angela Tareleton, laid off in January from her customer service position, is making as many connections as she can.

"Right now I'm willing to do anything at any category anything not just customer service, not anymore. I can't afford to just look for those type of jobs anymore", says Tarleton. She quickly discovered competition is fierce right now.

So, in a situation where so many people are looking for a job, how do you stand out? "The best way first of all is be dressed for success. Always make sure you're not in blue jeans. Make sure you have a suit, nice dress pants. Always smile, look everyone in the eye, shake their hand and have a resume." says Lisa Preston, Branch Manager of Personnel Staffing. Preston adds, no matter how insecure or nervous you feel, act confident. "Tell yourself 'I know you can do this. I might have lost my job, but, it's o.k. I can find another one. It'll come around.' The economy is going to get better".

Job staffing experts say don't be afraid to look outside the box. Vicki Mitchelmore, district sales manager for Avon, says the company is shedding it's image of granny's perfume and makeup. Mitchelmore says she's more men are earning money by selling Avon these days, "Just come on and let us help you be successful".

Your next job could be as close as your local law enforcement. The Mobile County Sheriff's office provides it's employes with Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Insurance. Director of Human Resources, Ralph Buffkin is looking to train and hire corrections officers.

"It is a good paying job, it's great benefits. While it's a jail, it's a great environment to work in", says Buffkin.
