Gulfport Police are going high tech to crack down on car thieves.

Police caught two suspects trying to steal one of their bait cars on Tuesday. The cars are part of the department's new auto-theft unit. The vehicles are equipped with cameras and a tracking device.

Chief Alan Weatherford says they have deployed the cars about 15 times in the past two months. Joseph Turner and Karl Daniels were the auto-theft unit's first arrests.
"Their plans were to take the vehicle and sell it and also to sell the engine...and the technology worked,"Said Chief Weatherford.

Joseph Turner and Karl Daniels are charged with Motor Vehicle theft. They are being held on $25,000 bonds at the Harrison County Jail.
